The Jumeirah Beach Residence (commonly known as JBR) is a 1.7-kilometre (1.1-mile) long, 2-square-kilometre (0.77-square-mile) gross floor area waterfront complex in Dubai Marina, United Arab Emirates, on the Persian Gulf's shore. There are 40 towers in this residential complex (35 are residential and 5 are hotels). JBR can house around 15,000 people in its residences and hotel rooms. The project contains 6,917 units ranging in size from 900 square feet (84 square metres) flats to 5,500 square feet (510 square metres) penthouses. Shams, Amwaj, Rimal, Bahar, Sadaf, and Murjan are the six residential blocks of JBR (in order from west to east). The Dubai Marina, Dubai Tram, and Dubai Metro are all within walking distance of JBR. JBR was first opened in August 2002 by Dubai Properties (a subsidiary of Dubai Holding). The project, worth 6 billion dirhams, was completed in 2010.
